Student Echoes

"My son has been taking drumming lessons from Chris for over 5 years. He started when he was 9 years old. I believe Adam stuck with the lessons for so long because of Chris' personality and his teaching abilities with kids. Chris has been able to encourage my son over the years... he has taught him to practice... he has taught him how to read music... and how to play the drums! This was no easy task for a teacher as Adam has learning disabilities and learning is not always easy for him. One amazing thing is that over the years Adam has never not wanted to go to his drum lesson. But now as a freshman in high school, Adam is now a member of the drumline in his marching band."

— Nancy Hofmann, Parent

"I've been taking lessons from Chris for three years since 6th grade. He has helped me out with everything from snare to jazz drumming and has greatly improved my skill and technique. Chris is very talented in both playing drums and instruction in playing drums; and I believe he is one of the best if not the best at teaching percussion in the area."

— Jake Mazzone, Student

"I have taken lessons from Chris for several years and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute. He is a very talented and accomplished drummer. As a teacher he strives to make the lessons interesting and maintains a pace that helps me advance at a rate that best suits my desires and abilities."

— Joe Vultaggio, Adult Learner

"Chris Ellison is pretty much the best teacher I've ever had. He's better than all my high school teachers, even my AP Economics one! He's easy to learn from and committed to his students. He shows an interest in his students lives both in and outside of drumming. Could not recommend him enough!"

— Jimmy Bax, Student

"My son has studied percussion with Chris Ellison for 4 years. Chris has helped him to prepare for auditions, Honor Band and Solo & Ensemble contests. He has worked with him on a wide variety of music - from marching band to symphonic band to jazz/drum set. Chris is a talented and enthusiastic teacher who is genuinely interested in my son's progress."

Questions

Got questions about drum lessons? Here are answers to what students and parents ask most often.

How long does it take to learn drums?

Most beginners can play basic rock beats within 2-3 months of weekly lessons. Developing solid technique and sight-reading ability typically takes 1-2 years of consistent practice. Every student progresses at their own pace.

What age can kids start drum lessons?

Children can begin drum lessons as young as 5 years old. At NowDrum, we specialize in making lessons fun and engaging for young students, including those with ADHD and learning differences.

Do I need my own drums to take lessons?

No! Our Evendale studio is fully equipped with professional gear. However, having a practice pad at home ($20-40) will help you progress faster between lessons.

Do you teach adults?

Absolutely! Many of our students are adults - whether picking up drums for the first time or returning after years away. It's never too late to learn drums.

What areas do you serve?

NowDrum serves all of Greater Cincinnati including Evendale, Blue Ash, Mason, West Chester, Montgomery, Kenwood, Sharonville, Loveland, and surrounding areas.

How do I prepare for DCI auditions?
